Qatar gratuity worked examples: see the exact math

Short answer

Article 54 of the Qatar Labour Law gives you 3 weeks of basic wage for every year of service — that is 21 days per year. Daily wage = basic wage ÷ 30. You must complete at least 1 year to qualify. Below are 9 worked examples with the full calculation shown.

The formula, step by step

  1. Daily wage = last basic wage ÷ 30
  2. Gratuity = daily wage × 21 × number of years
  3. Part-years count proportionally (e.g. 6 months = 0.5 year)
  4. Minimum service: 1 full year — less than a year means no gratuity

Only basic wage counts — housing, transport and other allowances are excluded. Unlike the UAE, Qatar has no 2-year cap and the same 21-day rate applies every year.

Example set 1: QAR 2,000 basic wage

Daily wage = 2,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 66.67.

Example set 2: QAR 4,000 basic wage

Example set 3: QAR 8,000 basic wage

Daily wage = 8,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 266.67.

Qatar vs UAE: the key difference

Qatar uses a flat 21-day rate every year — there is no jump to 30 days after 5 years like in the UAE, and no 2-year cap. This makes Qatar's math simpler: it is always daily wage × 21 × years.

What if you leave before 1 year?

You get nothing as gratuity — the 1-year minimum is strict. Read our guide: Leaving Qatar before 1 year: what you lose. You are still owed unpaid wages and any unused leave.
