Leaving a job in Qatar before 1 year: what do you get?
Last updated: October 2026. Based on the Qatar Labour Law; not legal advice.
No gratuity. Qatar's law pays end-of-service gratuity only after 1 year of service. But you still get pay for every day you worked, and you must serve your notice. Completing the first year can make a real difference to your final settlement.
What you still get
Salary for all the days you worked, any overtime or amounts the company owes you, and anything your contract promises. Gratuity is zero, but your final settlement isn't.
A few more weeks can pay off
Example: on a QAR 3,000 basic, leaving at 11 months gives no gratuity. Complete 12 months and you get QAR 2,100. The calculator's planner shows the exact date your first year ends.
If you're still on probation
Probation can last up to 6 months. If the employer ends it, it must give you 1 month's notice. If you resign to join another employer in Qatar, give at least 1 month; if you resign to leave Qatar, give the notice you agreed, up to 2 months. See notice periods.
Changing jobs within Qatar
Since the 2020 reforms, you can change employers without a No Objection Certificate (NOC), as long as you follow the process and serve your notice.
Don't leave Qatar without serving notice
Leaving Qatar without completing your notice can stop you getting a new work permit for 1 year.
