Full award = half a month's wage for each of the first 5 years, then a full month's wage for each year after. Part-years count proportionally, and your last wage is used.

A worked example

Say your total monthly wage is SAR 6,000 and you resign after 4 years. The full award is 6,000 ÷ 2 × 4 = SAR 12,000, but resigning with 2 to 5 years of service gives you one third: SAR 4,000.

Resign after completing 5 years instead and the full award becomes SAR 15,000, with a two-thirds share: SAR 10,000. One more year makes a SAR 6,000 difference, which is why it pays to check before you resign.

Common questions

Do I get anything if I resign before 2 years?

No. If you resign with less than 2 years of service, no award is due. If the employer ends the job or the contract expires, shorter service still earns a proportional amount, unless it ends during probation.

Are housing and transport allowances included?

Usually, yes. Saudi law uses your last actual wage: basic pay plus fixed allowances such as housing and transport. Variable pay like commission or overtime is usually left out. Check your contract.

Is it based on my first salary or my last?

Your last. If your salary went up over the years, the whole service is calculated at the new salary.

How soon must the employer pay?

By law, within one week if the employer ends the contract, and within two weeks if you leave.

Is this an official calculation?

No, it's an estimate. The final amount depends on your contract and your employer's records. To confirm, use the official HRSD calculator.
