Article 61 dismissal–none

Gratuity = last basic salary ÷ 30 × 21 days × years of service. The law sets 3 weeks a year as the minimum; your contract can give more. Part-years count proportionally, and the employer may deduct amounts you owe it, such as a loan.

A worked example

Say your basic salary is QAR 4,000 and you resign after 5 years. Your daily basic wage is QAR 133.33, 21 days a year comes to QAR 2,800, and 5 years of gratuity is QAR 14,000.

Even if housing and transport bring your total salary to QAR 6,000, gratuity is still based on the QAR 4,000 basic. And if you leave at 11 months, gratuity is zero, so complete your first year.

Common questions

Do I get gratuity if I resign in Qatar?

Yes. With 1 year or more of service, you get the full gratuity even if you resign. Only a summary dismissal for serious misconduct under Article 61 removes it.

Is housing allowance included?

No. Under Article 54, gratuity is calculated on your last basic salary. Allowances aren't included unless your contract says otherwise.

Do I get anything with less than 1 year?

No gratuity. But pay for the days you worked and your unused annual leave are still yours.

Why 21 days? My contract says 30.

The law sets 3 weeks a year as the minimum and allows more. If your contract gives more, that applies, so you can change the days in the calculator. Some employers work out 3 weeks slightly differently, which can make a small difference.

Is this an official calculation?

No, it's an estimate. By law, the employer may deduct amounts you owe it from the gratuity. To confirm, contact Qatar's Ministry of Labour.
