How much end-of-service will you get in Bahrain?

Bahrain changed the system in March 2024: service before that is still owed by your employer, service after goes through the SIO. This calculator splits the two.

Your salary (in Bahraini dinars)

In Bahrain the benefit is based on basic salary plus social allowance (Article 47). Service before 1 March 2024 is still owed by your employer; service from that date is funded through the SIO./small>

ServiceBefore 1 Mar 2024 (employer owes)From 1 Mar 2024 (SIO)
Under 3 years15 days' wage per year — none if you resign4.2% of monthly wage, paid monthly by employer
3 to 5 years15 days/yr (first 3) + 1 month/yr after — half if you resign4.2% for first 3 yrs, then 8.4%
5 years or more15 days/yr (first 3) + 1 month/yr after — two-thirds if you resign8.4% of monthly wage

Pre-March-2024: (15 days × daily wage × first 3 years) + (1 month's wage × years after 3), based on basic salary + social allowance. From March 2024 your employer pays 4.2% of your monthly wage to the SIO for the first 3 years and 8.4% after — you claim that balance from the SIO when you leave.

A worked example

Say your basic is BHD 400 with BHD 50 social allowance (BHD 450 total) and you worked from January 2020 to December 2025, then resigned. Pre-March-2024 service is about 4.17 years: 15 days × (450 ÷ 30) × 3 = BHD 675 for the first 3 years, plus 1.17 × 450 = BHD 526.50 after — BHD 1,201.50 total. Resigning with 6 years' total service means two-thirds: BHD 801 from your employer.

If the employer had ended your contract instead, you would keep the full KWD 1,942.25 — and resigning before 3 years gives nothing at all.

Common questions

Where do I claim my money — employer or SIO?

Both, possibly. Service before 1 March 2024 is still owed by your employer under the old Article 116 formula. Service from 1 March 2024 was funded through monthly SIO contributions — claim that from the SIO (sio.gov.bh) with your IBAN.

How much does my employer pay to the SIO?

4.2% of your monthly wage (basic + social allowance) for each of the first 3 years of service, and 8.4% for every year after, paid monthly by the 15th.

Do I lose money if I resign?

Only on the pre-March-2024 portion: resigning with under 3 years gives nothing, 3–5 years gives half, and 5+ years gives two-thirds. Your SIO balance is contribution-based and is not reduced for resigning.

What if my employer never paid the SIO?

The employer still owes you. The SIO can penalise non-compliant employers, and you can complain to Bahrain's Ministry of Labour. Keep your contracts and pay slips.

Does this apply to Bahrainis too?

No. Bahrainis are covered by the pension system. This page is for expatriate (non-Bahraini) private-sector workers.

Is this an official calculation?

No, it's an estimate. The pre-2024 part follows Article 116; the SIO part is estimated from contribution rates — your actual SIO balance is on the SIO portal. For a binding figure, contact the SIO or a lawyer.
