How much gratuity do you get after 5 years in Saudi Arabia?
Last updated: October 2026. Based on the Saudi Labour Law; not legal advice.
If you complete 5 years and then resign, you get two thirds of the full award. The full award for 5 years equals two and a half months' wages, because each of the first 5 years earns half a month. On a SAR 5,000 wage that's SAR 12,500 in full, or SAR 8,333.33 if you resign.
Why the 5-year mark matters so much
Two things change when you complete 5 years. First, if you resign, your share rises from one third to two thirds of the full award. Second, every year after the fifth earns a full month's wage instead of half a month.
Examples on a SAR 5,000 monthly wage
| Service | Full award (SAR) | If you resign (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 years | 10,000 | 3,333.33 |
| 5 years | 12,500 | 8,333.33 |
| 7 years | 22,500 | 15,000 |
| 10 years | 37,500 | 37,500 |
If the employer ends the contract, you get the full-award column in every row.
The costly mistake: resigning a few weeks early
Resign at 4 years 11 months on the same wage and you get about SAR 4,097. Wait one more month to complete 5 years and you get SAR 8,333.33, roughly SAR 4,236 more for a single month. Count from your exact start date: the calculator's planner shows the date you complete 5 years.
After 10 years
Once you complete 10 years, you get the full award even if you resign. On a SAR 5,000 wage, 10 years means SAR 37,500.
Which wage is used?
The award uses your last wage, which usually includes fixed allowances like housing and transport. If your salary rose over the years, the whole service is counted at the new salary. See whether housing allowance is included.
