What is the notice period in the UAE?
Written by Usama Afzal. Last updated: October 2026. Based on the UAE Labour Law; not legal advice.
After probation, your notice period is whatever your contract says, but it must be at least 30 days and no more than 90 days, and it's the same for you and the employer (Article 43). During probation, shorter rules apply.
Notice at a glance
| Situation | Notice |
|---|---|
| After probation | 30 to 90 days, as in the contract |
| Employer ends it during probation | 14 days |
| You move to another UAE employer during probation | 1 month |
| You leave the UAE during probation | 14 days |
If you leave during probation without notice
If you leave the UAE during probation without serving notice and don't come back, a ban on a new work permit of up to 1 year may apply.
Give notice in writing
Write the date clearly, keep a copy, and get the employer to acknowledge it by email or signature. Your notice period starts from that date.
Notice doesn't reduce gratuity
Serving notice has no effect on your gratuity; resigning keeps the full amount. See gratuity on resignation.
Work out your own amount
Enter your dates and salary to see your end-of-service pay instantly.
