Company not paying your final settlement in the UAE? What to do
Written by Usama Afzal. Last updated: October 2026. Based on the UAE Labour Law; not legal advice.
By law, your employer must pay all dues, including gratuity, within 14 days of your last working day. If it doesn't, complain to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). MOHRE first tries to settle the dispute and, if that fails within 14 days, refers it to the labour court.
Step 1: Ask in writing
Email HR asking for your final settlement and a breakdown of how it was calculated. Keep copies of everything, including WhatsApp messages.
Step 2: Keep your documents
- Your MOHRE employment contract
- Emirates ID and passport copies
- Salary slips or bank statements (WPS)
- Resignation or termination letter
- Messages and emails with the company
Step 3: Complain to MOHRE
File the complaint through the MOHRE app or website, or at a service centre. MOHRE tries to reach an amicable settlement; if it can't within 14 days, the case goes to the labour court.
Check the amount first
Before you complain, check what you're owed with the UAE gratuity calculator and download the slip as a PDF to show your figures.
