How much gratuity after 10 years in Bahrain? The quick answer

Short answer

After 10 full years of service, Bahrain's gratuity formula gives you 8.5 months of your last wage. On a BHD 400 wage that is BHD 3,400; on BHD 600 it is BHD 5,100; on BHD 800 it is BHD 6,800; on BHD 1,000 it is BHD 8,500. Keep reading — the March 2024 SIO change can alter how part of this amount reaches you.

Ten years. That is a decade of early shifts, late nights, and rent paid on time because you showed up. So when the final settlement paper lands on your desk, one question matters more than any other: how much gratuity after 10 years in Bahrain should actually be in your hand? Let us work it out together, step by step, with real numbers.

The Bahrain gratuity formula: where 8.5 months comes from

The answer comes from Article 116 of Bahrain Labour Law No. 36 of 2012 — the same formula our Bahrain gratuity calculator uses:

For 10 years the maths is: (3 × 15 days) + (7 × 30 days) = 45 + 210 = 255 days of wage. Divide by 30 days and you get 8.5 months. Two more things the law settles: the wage used is your last wage, and partial years count pro-rata — nothing is rounded away.

Worked example: BHD 600 wage, 10 years of service

Meet Ahmed. He joined a Manama logistics company 10 years ago and his last wage is BHD 600 a month (basic plus social allowance). Here is his payout, line by line:

  1. Daily wage: 600 ÷ 30 = BHD 20 a day
  2. First 3 years: 3 years × 15 days × BHD 20 = BHD 900
  3. Next 7 years: 7 years × 30 days × BHD 20 = BHD 4,200
  4. Total end-of-service gratuity: BHD 900 + BHD 4,200 = BHD 5,100

The shortcut works too: 8.5 × 600 = BHD 5,100. If your own wage is different, just multiply 8.5 by your last monthly wage.

Reading the table: how much gratuity after 10 years in Bahrain for each salary

Pick the row closest to your last wage and look at the 10 years column — that is your baseline before the 2024 SIO split below. Bring this number with you when you discuss the final settlement; an employer who quotes much less should explain exactly why.

Important: the March 2024 SIO split and your 10 years

Important: Bahrain changed the system in March 2024. Service before 1 March 2024 is still owed by your employer under the Article 116 formula above. Service from that date is funded through the SIO (Social Insurance Organization), with the employer paying 4.2% of your monthly wage into it each month.

Say Ahmed joined in January 2017 and his last day is October 2026 — 9 years and 9 months in total:

The SIO portion is an estimate — always confirm it against your own SIO statement. The key point: the pre-2024 part is still your employer's debt, and for 10 years ending in 2026 that is still most of the money.

Which wage counts? Your last wage — not your starting salary

Gratuity in Bahrain is calculated on your last wage — the figure on your final payslip, basic salary plus social allowance. Overtime, bonuses and commissions are not counted, and the daily wage is simply the monthly wage divided by 30.

Watch out: if you started at BHD 450 and now earn BHD 600, every day of those 10 years is valued at the BHD 600 rate. An employer who quietly uses your old starting salary is underpaying you by BHD 1,275 on a 10-year record — check the payslip they based it on.

Partial years count too

Worked 10 years and 6 months? The extra half year is worth 15 days' wage — nothing is rounded down to 10. So 10.5 years = 255 + 15 = 270 days = 9 months. On a BHD 600 wage that is BHD 5,400 instead of BHD 5,100. Only unpaid leave days are excluded from the count.

Watch out: five mistakes that shrink the payout

What if you resigned?

Resignation cases follow their own rules under Bahrain law, so do not assume the full 8.5 months applies automatically. Before you sign anything, read our dedicated guide on gratuity if you resign in Bahrain — and run your dates through the Bahrain gratuity calculator with the "I resigned" option.

Your next step: check the number before you sign

You now know exactly how much gratuity after 10 years in Bahrain the law points to. Do not leave it as theory: enter your joining date, last day and last wage into the Bahrain gratuity calculator, compare the result with your employer's figure, and ask for a written breakdown if the two differ. Ten years of work deserves ten minutes of checking.

Frequently asked questions

How much gratuity after 10 years in Bahrain?

8.5 months of your last wage. On a BHD 500 wage that is BHD 4,250; on BHD 1,000 it is BHD 8,500. The March 2024 SIO split may change how part of it is paid — the pre-2024 portion is still owed by your employer.

How is gratuity calculated in Bahrain for 10 years of service?

Under Article 116 of Labour Law No. 36 of 2012: 15 days' wage for each of the first 3 years plus one month's wage for each of the next 7 years. That is (3 × 15) + (7 × 30) = 255 days = 8.5 months of your last wage.

What is the gratuity for 10 years in Bahrain on a BHD 800 salary?

8.5 × BHD 800 = BHD 6,800, based on your last wage (basic plus social allowance). Partial years beyond 10 add more — 10.5 years would be 9 months, or BHD 7,200.

Does the 2024 SIO system change my Bahrain gratuity after 10 years?

It splits it. Service before 1 March 2024 is still paid by your employer under the Article 116 formula; service from that date is funded through the SIO (the employer contributes 4.2% of your monthly wage). For 10 years ending in 2026, most of the amount is still the employer's part.

Is there a maximum limit on gratuity in Bahrain?

No. Unlike the UAE's two-year-wage cap, Bahrain's Article 116 sets no maximum — your full 8.5 months for 10 years stands, calculated on your last wage.
