Short answer

After 10 years of service in Qatar, your gratuity is 7 full months of your last basic salary. The Qatar gratuity formula under Article 54 of Qatar's Labour Law is (last basic monthly salary ÷ 30) × 21 × years of service. So for gratuity after 10 years the 10-year award on a QAR 8,000 basic salary is QAR 56,000, and on QAR 10,000 it is QAR 70,000. You need at least 1 year of service to qualify; allowances are excluded from the calculation; and resigning does not cut your 10-year Qatar gratuity.

How much gratuity after 10 years in Qatar: the short formula

If you only need the number, here is how much gratuity after 10 years in Qatar works out in one line:

Gratuity = (last basic monthly salary ÷ 30) × 21 × years = 0.7 × last basic salary × years, so 10 years = 7 months of basic wage
Years of serviceRate per year
1 year or more21 days of basic wage per year
Less than 1 yearNo gratuity is payable
ResignationSame 21-day rate — no reduction
Partial yearsCounted proportionally (6 months = half a year)

The Qatar gratuity formula: Article 54 of the Qatar Labour Law

Every serious answer to how much gratuity after 10 years in Qatar starts from one article: Article 54 of Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004. It says any worker with at least 1 year of service gets an end-of-service gratuity of at least 3 weeks (21 days) of their last basic wage for every year of service. These are statutory minimums — any contract term that waives them is void.

Two features make the Qatar gratuity calculation simpler than its neighbours. First, there is one flat rate: 21 days per year for every year — no Saudi-style tiers of half-month and full-month bands. Second, unlike the UAE, Qatar sets no two-year wage ceiling: your 10-year Qatar gratuity keeps growing year after year, exactly as the formula says.

Which salary counts for gratuity after 10 years in Qatar?

The biggest source of disputes about how much gratuity after 10 years in Qatar is really owed is the salary figure itself. The law counts only your last basic wage — housing, transport, food and other allowances are left out, along with overtime and bonuses.

How the basic wage is fixed for your Qatar gratuity

Take this example: your basic salary is QAR 5,000 and your contract adds a QAR 2,000 housing allowance. Your 10-year Qatar gratuity is calculated on QAR 5,000 only: (5,000 ÷ 30) × 21 × 10 = QAR 35,000. If you mistakenly used the QAR 7,000 total, you would get QAR 49,000 — a QAR 14,000 over-estimate that no labour committee would uphold. Our guide on how gratuity is calculated in Qatar explains the salary rules in detail.

If you got pay rises during your service, the whole 10 years are valued at the last basic wage — early low-salary years are not calculated separately.

Worked example: gratuity after 10 years in Qatar on QAR 8,000

Take a worker whose last basic salary is QAR 8,000 and who completed exactly 10 years. Here is the Qatar gratuity calculation step by step:

  1. Find the daily wage. 8,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 266.67 per day.
  2. Multiply by the 21-day rate. 266.67 × 21 = QAR 5,600 per year of service.
  3. Multiply by the years of service. 5,600 × 10 = QAR 56,000.

Check it yourself: the same formula in the Qatar gratuity calculator returns QAR 56,000 for a QAR 8,000 basic salary over 10 years.

Gratuity after 10 years in Qatar: quick table for common salaries

The table below shows how much gratuity after 10 years in Qatar works out at the basic salaries people search for most, with 5, 7 and 12 years shown for comparison:

Monthly basic wageAfter 5 yearsAfter 7 yearsAfter 10 yearsAfter 12 years
QAR 5,00017,50024,50035,00042,000
QAR 8,00028,00039,20056,00067,200
QAR 10,00035,00049,00070,00084,000
QAR 12,00042,00058,80084,000100,800
QAR 15,00052,50073,500105,000126,000

Because the 21-day rate is flat, your 10-year Qatar gratuity grows in a straight line with service — twice the years means twice the award, exactly. For smaller amounts, see our Qatar gratuity worked examples.

Do you get full gratuity if you resign after 10 years in Qatar?

Yes. Qatar is unusual in the Gulf: resigning does not reduce your gratuity. Once you have completed 1 year of service, the same 21-day rate applies whether you resign or the employer ends the contract — so the 10-year award on resignation is the same 7 months of basic wage.

The award is lost only if you are dismissed for serious misconduct under Article 61. See do you get gratuity if you resign in Qatar for the full resignation rules.

Partial years: how 10 years and 7 months are counted

Partial years count proportionally. If you worked 10 years and 6 months on a QAR 8,000 basic salary, the formula gives 5,600 × 10.5 = QAR 58,800 — those 6 months are worth QAR 2,800, so don't let anyone round them down. Keep your appointment letter and payslips as proof of the start and end dates.

The same pro-rata rule applies if you leave just short of 10 years: with 9 years and 8 months, the calculation uses 9.67 years. If you are still under 1 year of service in total, see leaving Qatar before 1 year.

6 mistakes that shrink your Qatar gratuity calculation

Gratuity vs final settlement: what else you are owed after 10 years

Knowing how much gratuity your 10 years in Qatar earned you is only half the final settlement. On top of the end-of-service award you are also owed: unused annual leave encashed at the last basic wage (see annual leave in Qatar), notice-period pay if the notice period was not served (see notice period in Qatar), and any unpaid wages (see salary delay and WPS complaints in Qatar). Note that domestic workers follow separate regulations rather than this Article 54 formula.

Your 5-minute Qatar gratuity checklist

  1. Confirm your service length — count months, not just years, and make sure it is at least 1 full year (10 years for this guide).
  2. Get your last basic wage figure — from a recent payslip, with all allowances stripped out.
  3. Apply the formula: (basic ÷ 30) × 21 × years — or run the Qatar gratuity calculator.
  4. If you resigned, the same amount applies — resignation doesn't change your 10-year Qatar gratuity.
  5. Before signing the final settlement, check gratuity + unused leave + notice pay are listed separately — if the employer refuses to pay, file a complaint (our unpaid-gratuity complaint guide shows the steps).

Frequently asked questions

How much gratuity do I get after 10 years in Qatar?

7 full months of your last basic salary. The formula is (basic ÷ 30) × 21 × 10: on a QAR 8,000 basic salary that is QAR 56,000, and on QAR 10,000 it is QAR 70,000. You need at least 1 year of service; allowances are excluded.

What is the formula for calculating gratuity after 10 years in Qatar?

Gratuity = (last basic monthly salary ÷ 30) × 21 × years of service, under Article 54 of Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004. For 10 years that simplifies to 0.7 × basic salary × 10 = 7 months of basic wage. Partial years count proportionally.

Is Qatar gratuity calculated on basic salary or total salary?

Basic salary only. Housing, transport, food and other allowances, overtime and bonuses are all excluded from the calculation — including for a 10-year award in Qatar.

Do I get gratuity if I resign after 10 years in Qatar?

Yes, the full amount. Qatar does not reduce gratuity for resignation: once you have 1 year of service, the 21-day rate applies whether you resign or the employer ends the contract. The award is lost only if you are dismissed for serious misconduct under Article 61.

How much gratuity after 10 years in Qatar on a QAR 5,000 salary?

(5,000 ÷ 30) × 21 × 10 = QAR 35,000, provided the QAR 5,000 is your last basic salary (not total salary with allowances).
