Short answer

A Qatar final settlement is the complete end-of-service package your employer must pay when your job ends. It has four parts: your end of service benefits Qatar gratuity — Article 54 of the Qatar Labour Law (Law No. 14 of 2004) gives 21 days of basic wage for every year of service, with a minimum of 1 year of service — plus any unpaid wages, payment in lieu of unused annual leave, and any other dues your contract promises. Only the basic wage counts toward the gratuity; allowances are excluded.

What is included in a Qatar final settlement?

A final settlement is not a single payment — it is the total of everything the employer owes you when the contract ends. Here is what a normal Qatar final settlement contains:

What is NOT included in the gratuity part

Allowances are not part of the gratuity base: housing, transport and food allowances are excluded — the Article 54 Qatar Labour Law formula uses the basic wage only. Anything extra, such as overtime or a discretionary bonus, must come from your contract, not from the law.

Qatar final settlement checklist: before you sign

Run through this checklist before you sign any Qatar final settlement paper:

  1. Find your last basic wage on a recent payslip — strip out the allowances.
  2. Calculate your gratuity yourself with our Qatar gratuity calculator and compare it with the company's figure.
  3. Count your unused annual leave days — each unused day is worth one daily wage (basic wage ÷ 30).
  4. Add your unpaid wages for the final month, including any earned overtime.
  5. Read the settlement paper carefully. Ask for a written breakdown of every line, and do not sign anything you do not fully understand.
  6. Never sign a blank form, and never sign a receipt saying you received the money before you actually receive it.

The final settlement calculation Qatar example above shows why you should always check each line separately — the gratuity is the biggest part, but leave pay and wages add up too. You can verify the gratuity line with our Qatar gratuity calculator.

Can I get a final settlement if I resign in Qatar?

Yes. Resigning does not cancel your end-of-service rights — after 1 year of service you get the full Qatar final settlement, including the full Qatar gratuity, whether you resign or the employer ends the contract. See our guide: Resigning in Qatar: do you keep your gratuity?

What to do if your company delays your final settlement

The settlement is normally paid on or shortly after your last working day. If your company delays your Qatar final settlement, ask HR for a written payment date first — and keep copies of your contract, payslips and ID. If the company refuses to pay, you can file a complaint with the Ministry of Labour; our step-by-step guide explains how: Company not paying your gratuity in Qatar? How to complain. Never sign a paper giving up your dues just to get your passport or exit permit released.
